Weekend Food Events April 3-6, 2009

This weekend, Saxelby and Murray’s will each host events that promise not only to be delicious, but also educational. Those looking for a thriftier source of culinary fun will be able to attend the Grillin’ on the Bay and Brooklyn Chili Smackdown, a fundraiser that will benefit St Mark’s School in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn.

Meet The Maker
Meet Adeline Folley-Druart, Cheesemaker, Operations Manager, and Culture Master at Vermont Butter & Cheese Company. Taste through her bevy of butters and cheese as she enlightens us on her cultural studies in France (cheese starter cultures, that is), bringing aged goat cheeses stateside, and her first-hand experiences making cheese in Vermont.

Grillin’ on the Bay and Brooklyn Chili Smackdown
BBQ and Chilli masters will compete in this fundraiser that will benefit St. Mark School in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. $10 gets you all-you-can-eat chili. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase starting at noon.

Seasonal Cheese Tasting
For anyone who’s thirsting for some good cheese, good wine, and tall tales, Saxelby Cheesemongers is teaming up with Discovery Wines for a fabulous tasting. Event participants will “taste seasonal cheeses made in this period of flux between winter and spring, and discuss how seasonality and terroir exist in the cheese world”.
